Panagiotis Tsampounaras

Panagiotis Tsampounaras was born in Athens in 1933. His love for language was the driving force behind his long and creative career.

He studied Linguistics and Lexicography at the University of Knightsbridge, (Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics - his thesis was Bilingual Lexicography in Greece) and he devoted himself to English-Greek lexicography.

Sensing the fast interaction of languages in the digital age, he envisaged a constantly updated dictionary which would be an indispensable reference tool for the modern user.

MAGENTA developed the English-Greek Golden Version electronic dictionary with his cooperation.

Panagiotis Tsampounaras passed away in June 2001, leaving behind him a unique heritage for the Greek language, and the pleasure of meeting a rare individual to all of us whose paths crossed with his.
